The go to for golfers on the most tees, especially on the first hole is to whip out the driver and attempt to smash it long and straight. But as I am sure you are well aware of by now, is no mean feat to accomplish when you have not warmed up properly, you are a little tense and tight and you have yet to dial in your swing for the day.

At The Open in St Andrews the smart players used irons and hybrids off the tee when needed and let the driver loose when it was the better choice to minimize damage. You my golfing friend should do the same

Today, The Art of Simple Golf  has a video that takes you onto the course for an important lesson to shoot more consistent scores.

Simple golf tips are the best ones as they are common sense and you can use them right away. The video here is on the course lesson with me Alex Fortey sharing an obvious but too often ignored simple tip for lower, consistent golf scores…

You want to score better, hit more greens and hole some putts and to do that, i’m sure you are aware, you need to hit more fairways.

However choosing the driver on pretty much every tee shot is not always the best choice.

Too many golfers always hit the big dog of the tee without really considering the challenge ahead on the hole or the consequences of a poor on even a too good a tee shot. For example look at the image below and see the tight fairway lined with trees for the entire 430 yards that rolls off to left and requires pin point accuracy.

What club choice would you use? A Driver because of the length?

But if you were to use a hybrid or an iron on this hole and on more of your tees, I guarantee you will score better the very next time you play, no mater your handicap. Try this simple golf and let me know how you get on next time you play.

Simple Golf Tip To Hit More Fairways And Shoot Consistent Scores

So am I saying to stop using the driver completely? Of course not, but I would bet good $$$ that if you were to be a little more sensible on your tee shots, you will score better instantly.

Be smart, score lower.

This is Golf. Simplified.
