The golf swing is, as i’m sure you are well aware of is made out to be this complicated, never ending process of tweaking that requires a science degree to comprehend let alone to repeat consistently enough for you to play enjoyable golf without practicing like a tour pro.
Well I’m pleased to say, there is another way.
Our mission here at The Art of Simple Golf is to bring you simple golf lessons and tips so you can enjoy golf more, finally see improvement and feel an increase of effortless power and lower scores though methods to own a simple golf swing and a mindset that builds on principles and common sense you can trust.
This video and Shawn Clement are part of that philosophy and mission.
Using a grass whip, something that harvey Penick was a a big fan of the grass whip because it teaches you a perfect fluid motion that is natural and consistent to cut grass backwards and forwards and something most golfers will do naturally when they are not as focussed on HITTING the golf ball.
When you imagine the golf ball like a small flower and the grass whip cutting the stem or the tee as it were. You see a golf club is also a grass cutting tool, when you see and feel this your swing will be a lot more fluid and in balance if you feel the sole of the club cutting grass backwards and forwards in your golf swing motion.
If you see a small flower as opposed to a golf ball you swing will improve instantly because if your eyes are focussed on the the golf ball, your swing will tend to hit AT the golf ball more than cutting through.
It becomes an automatic over the top, chop at the ball that causes slices and fat shots for example.
So if you focus more on cutting your will notice release in your golf swing, so why not go get and a grass cutting tool from a hardware store or at the very least, next time your are practicing even in your yard, cut the grass with the sole of the club.
This also applies off a fairway shot too, the same feel and rhythm should apply.
Please do try this simple golf swing lesson and you to will now see that in just 5 minutes you will be playing better golf.

Where can you get one of these grass cutters in the UK?
B&Q should have them!
Alex, I’m not much on adding replies, but after watching the tip by Shawn and cutting the grass, I ventured to the practice range and much to my surprise and delight, was able to “consistently” strike the ball more in the middle of my clubs and my divot coming after the ball! With only thinking of proper address and cutting grass I realized how it feels to strike the ball first, with the bottom of my swing automatically being in front of my “dandelion ” ! I’m 62 yrs. old and looking forward to taking that one thought to the course. Thanks for what you do to make the game simple.
This is great to hear Paul. Keep your swing strain free and natural and you will be just fine 😉
Keep us posted and keep at it 🙂
